Rocking Chair
The rocking chair's origin has not been well noted down. Some Americans believed that it was Benjamin Franklin who invented the first rocking chair. But it is highly unlikely as such an event was never mentioned in any of his notes or his autobiography. It was said, however, that rocking chairs did originate in America or possibly in England BC. 1725 as garden chairs and were originally normal chairs with a pair of rockers fixed to the bottom. It was not until around 1800
that rocking chairs began to be produced by furniture companies in large quantity. One of the first businesses to produce rocking chairs was the work shop of Duncan Phyfe who produced furniture that pioneered the Empire style in New York City.
A rocking chair or a rocker is a chair with a pair of curved bands of wood (also know as rockers) fixed to the bottom of the legs (one on the left two legs and one on the right two legs). In doing so the chair only contacts with the floor at those two flat bands and this allows the occupant to rock back and forth by shifting his/her weight or pushing slightly with his/her feet. Many people enjoyed rocking chairs’ soothing effect because of the gentle rocking would relieve stresses. Rocking chairs are also
comfortable because sometimes when one sits in. without pushing by people the rocking chair automatically rocks backwards until the sitter's center of gravity is met. Doing much good to people’s health, it offers the ergonomic benefit that the occupant is kept at a much unstressed position and angle.
